Our School Mission:

All students at Potomac Elementary will become lifelong learners who are self-confident and self-motivated.

Goal 1: By the end of the 2025–2026 school year, Potomac Elementary School will increase the SOL Reading pass rate for Students with Disabilities
by 10%, closing the gap between the subgroup and the overall student population.

• Strategy 1: Curriculum will be aligned and will be implemented consistently.
• Strategy 2: Grade levels will meet consistently to plan, review common assessments, and reflect on student performance.
• Strategy 3: Grade level and content area teams will reflect on student data after unit assessments.
• Strategy 4: Teachers will frequently monitor student progress and provide feedback.
• Strategy 5: Provide targeted small group reading interventions using approved interventions for Students with Disabilities.
• Strategy 6: Schedule coteaching planning sessions to ensure appropriate scaffolding and reading comprehension strategies.

Goal 2: By the end of the 2024–2025 school year, Potomac Elementary School will reduce Chronic Absenteeism by 5%, improving the overall
attendance rate from 84.33% to at least 89%.

• Strategy 1: Identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism (10% or more absences).
• Strategy 2: Implement parent outreach for students missing 5+ days.
• Strategy 3: Establish attendance incentives for students with good attendance.
• Strategy 4: Meet in attendance club for engagement with students identified with attendance concerns.

Goal 3: By the end of the 2025–2026 school year, Potomac Elementary will increase teacher satisfaction and sense of support by 15%, as
measured by midyear and end-of-year staff surveys, while maintaining full participation in collaborative academic planning and professional learning communities
(PLCs).

• Strategy 1: Conduct “pulse checks” or surveys to gather teacher feedback on workload, morale, and support needs.
• Strategy 2: Establish a teacher support committee to plan morale-boosting events, appreciation initiatives, and peer recognition.
• Strategy 3: Protect common planning and PLC time to reduce after-hours workload and support balanced collaboration.
• Strategy 4: Recognize staff achievements (academic and personal) through staff meetings.

Early Dismissal Update – Effective December 1

Beginning December 1, early dismissal procedures will change:

• Students may be picked up at the front lobby until 3:15 p.m.
   

• After 3:15 p.m., please use the parent pick-up line.
   

• Families who pick up frequently may request a Parent Pick-Up Card.
   

• When using the pick-up line, please be prepared to show identification.
   

• Regular dismissal remains at 3:40 p.m.
   

Please send any transportation changes in writing (note or email) to your child’s teacher.
Changes received after 12:00 p.m. may not be seen due to instructional time.

 Why We Have a Cutoff Time for Early Dismissal

To help keep our afternoon routines safe and organized, PES will have a 3:15 p.m. cutoff time for early dismissals. After this time, our staff and students are preparing for regular dismissal at 3:40 p.m.

Having a set cutoff allows us to:

• Keep students safe by making sure all dismissal changes are clearly documented.
   

• Minimize classroom interruptions during important end-of-day instruction.
   

• Ensure a smooth, efficient dismissal for every student.
