Principal- Dr. Melinda Brown
We are off to a successful start of the 2023-2024 school year, and the students are thrilled to be back in the building! It is so great to see their smiling faces as they look forward to another year of learning. I am overjoyed to see the progress our students have made despite the obstacles associated with Covid-19. They are truly excelling!
Our teachers and staff are ready to support our students throughout this school year. Our theme this year is "Kindness begins with me". Not only will we teach our students to be kind to one another, but we will also teach them to be kind to themselves. Our staff will be working on this as well! We want to bring the best versions of ourselves to PES everyday so we can be present and available for our students.
We look forward to partnering with our parents, guardians, and community again this year. Your support is a model example of kindness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students!

I am looking forward to working with our staff, students, and families as the assistant principal at Potomac Elementary School. I come with 23 years of experience in education. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Morehead State University, a Master's degree from Regent University, and an Administration and Supervision endorsement from Longwood University.
Personally, I also have a large family, six children of which two are still at home. They attend King George County Schools. I was recently blessed with my first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl. In my down time, my family and I love exploring and camping!
I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky and community was such an important part of my everyday life. I have observed already that PES carries that strong sense of community and it makes me excited to be here with you and to work with our amazing students each day.

We are so excited for the 2024 - 2025 school year! Potomac Elementary School has always held a special place in my heart. My mom taught here when I was a kid and PES was my elementary school. I have had the privilege to work as a student, teacher, grade level chair, and now an administrator in this building.
After graduating from King George High School, I ventured to Radford University to earn my Bachelor's Degree. This took me on an adventure to Lynchburg where I learned so much from my time working at the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center. While there, I worked to complete my Master's Degree. The last ten years have been devoted to my family and PES; where I have been working with the best people in the world. I am so humbled to be able to watch my two boys learn from some of the same people who taught me the ins and outs of how to be a good person. I was able to wrap up my Administration and Supervision endorsement from Old Dominion University last year and now here we are.
I cannot wait to see what this year brings to each of us. Make time to read together, play games together, and just be with one another. Family time is what holds us all up through the good times and the tough ones. We here at PES will always be a family and we are ready to make memories with our students this year!
